The live band (and further collaborators) consists of Tom Little, Preston Smith, and Chris Semmelbeck, while co-founder Daniel Gonzalez and Jeff Morisano contribute on the writing and production side.

I sometimes forget to turn off autoplay, which usually annoys me, but in this case, it’s how I discovered semiwestern’s self-titled album, “semiwestern”.

The music generally explores inner conflict and self-doubt through the lens of nostalgia, reflecting on the past, lost youth, and the changes that come with growing up. Its’ contemplative, melancholic mood is most prominently carried by layered slowly progressing guitar arrangements and has this intimate and hazy sound about it, while in some parts opening up into brighter and more colorfully synth-backed passages. To me, it feels like music made in a dimly orange toned room at dusk on the end of a humid summer day.

I’ve grown really fond of their music over the past few weeks and knowing, that more semiwestern material is potentially already in the works makes me really excited to hear where the project is headed next.

Condo was the first song that really caught may attention, and it’s still my favorite. You should check it out.
